Attainment of mere theoretical knowledge is of minimal use these days unless it is substantiated with a strong technical skill. So, it’s very important to develop skills that are required to work in an organization. Any skill can be developed through proper training. A training cycle can be divided into four stages:

Identifying the skills to be developed

The training process should aim at developing the skills required to be applied in the project. For that identifying the skills, to be developed is very important as acquiring them will bridge the gap between theoretical and technical knowledge. This will reduce the period of training as the emphasis is given to building appropriate skills and there’s a lesser chance of distraction.

Designing the training

Designing the training material requires the idea of the audience that one’s targeting. The trainer should also have an idea about the learner’s prerequisite knowledge needed to understand the skill that he’s learning. Learning outcomes should be very well intimated at the beginning of the training process. Training can be designed through various case studies to make it more relatable for the learners. The training materials should comprise various quizzes, assignments, tests, etc. to keep the learner engaged and focused on learning. Learning in groups through mutual interaction with peers helps in grasping the concepts more. So, the training should be designed in such a way that it provides enough scope for discussion with peers and instructors.

Delivering the training

It’s an important step as it helps the learner to understand the concepts and apply them in the projects. Concepts should be delivered clearly and concisely. The inclusion of examples and case studies during the lecture makes the concepts more relatable. There can be various methods of training such as lectures, presentations, demonstrations, Q and A, group discussion, and e-learning.

Assessing the training

Assessments help in evaluating the learner’s progress during the training. In another way, it helps to establish an interaction between the trainer and learner. Assessments can be done through various quizzes, assignments, group discussions, etc. A trainer can make learners fill feedback forms to get an idea about his way of conducting the training. This information can be used as a medium to improve the training process in the future. Knowledge is like a vast sea that has no limit. There’s no limit to how far one can go in terms of acquiring knowledge but there’ll always be deadlines for which one has to work in an organization to meet the requirements of projects. So, one must focus on identifying and building the most demanded skills of the project.
